The workshops are back on the program for this 17th edition.e edition. This Wednesday, February 5, festivalgoers were able to enjoy the expertise of Heimana Flohr during the audio dubbing workshop. Reportage.

A film doesn’t work without sound. It’s a fundamental part of telling the story and immersing the viewer in the emotion. But behind the voices or the sound effects of a film are hidden talents and artists. Among them, Heimana Flohr. After studying at the Parisian school SAE (School of Audio Engineers), he returned to fenua to launch his company. Recording, mixing, mastery, arrest, seizure, sound design, With only 31 years old, Heimana already has a wealth of experience with international collaborations. He has collaborated with Disney USA on the animated series Moana. He participated in the mixing but also lent his voice to the character of Tamatoa, the crab. Recently returning to France, he put his talent to work for Dubbing Brothers, the largest dubbing company in the world. Snow Queen 2, the latest Rambo film, Love in the Fire… Heimana Flohr helped record these productions, produced by Disney, Marvel and Netflix. For the past three years, he has been sharing his expertise and knowledge with FIFO festivalgoers through the audio dubbing workshop.« This workshop allows them to see both sides of the microphone: being in front but also behind, and to understand the demanding work of the technician. This allows them to see everything that happens behind a film. The ultimate goal is for the participants to go home and make their own recording and dubbing. ». The program of this workshop includes getting familiar with an audio editing software and recording to dub a voice.

The base first and foremost

The film chosen to be dubbed is the animated film The opposite is true. To keep the participants of the workshop entertained, each festival-goer chose a character to double. And among the eight apprentices, there is talent. Taloo, 45, has a voice that leaves no one indifferent. This musician known in Faanu came, of course, to have fun but also to learn the ropes of the profession. « I learned another aspect of the voice. It will be useful to me because I give advice in this field. These are additional experiences. ». Taloo came with her friend Tania, an actress. The thirty-something year old has already had experience with dubbing in metropolitan France, but her knowledge is limited to the technical level.« I didn't know that it was necessary to record at -18 ». The base according to Heimana Flohr, who shares her knowledge with young apprentices with professionalism and kindness.« Methodology is really important because we are faced with different work tools. Therefore, the participants have at least the same working base. ».

A discovery

For some, more novice than others, it is essential. This is the case of Léonore. A storyteller and actress, she signed up for this workshop to learn how to create a soundtrack. « In my performances, I like to use sound effects. Until now, I asked friends to do it, but I would like to do it myself. ». Now something that is feasible after four hours of work with Heimana Flohr.« What we did with him, we did in a few hours, whereas doing it alone would have taken us several days. »Tahiri thinks the same way,« he said. Passionate about cinema, he chose the character in the film that represents anger. When the other participants heard the result, laughter and congratulations followed. " I discovered my voice! It’s not the same when you hear it with your ear or with a speaker. »«, confides the thirty-something man who is participating in his first FIFO.« These workshops are really very interesting. I just regret that there is no professional training offered afterwards. As a result, we discover professions but we don’t have any possible training… It’s a shame ». But that doesn't stop Tahiri from exploring other audiovisual professions offered at this FIFO. Like Taloo and Tania, he will participate in the scriptwriting workshop.
