New Zealand. This beautiful documentary follows a ceremony where two women from the Ngai Tara and Mauapoko tribes receive their moko kauae, their chin tattoos. The head is the most tapu part of the body and through their moko they affirm their birthright and identity and invoke the mana of their Elders. The intimate but prestigious moko ceremony with its traditional songs is reserved for Maori women.
