Destins brisés (2021)

Résumé

New Caledonia. Between 1892 and 1939, about 10,000 Japanese people came to work on the rock. Some of them stayed. In 1939, they made up 75% of the foreigners living there. In 1941 the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour had immediate consequences for the French colony. The adult men were arrested, locked up in Nouville and deported to Australia. Ill-treatment ran rife and lives were cut short. Families were shattered. The film reveals the impact of the trauma. After 70 years of silence, the descendants call upon memories.
