This documentary set in Hawaii examines and critiques the history of Kaua'i. Reinforcing the dream of a tropical paradise too frequently presented by literary fantasies and exploited by Hollywood throughout the history of cinema but masking much less attractive realities such as the exploitation of sugar cane workers or low-paid workers in the cinema or tourism. A picture of the economic and cultural forces that gave secondary roles to Hawaiians and migrant workers.
