Indigenous storytelling and narrative sovereignty, with Adam Piron
Adam Piron, director of the indigenous program at the Sundance Institute
Narrative sovereignty embodies the reappropriation by indigenous peoples of their own narratives, freeing themselves from colonial stereotypes and perspectives. This movement transforms storytelling into an act of self-determination, ensuring the cultural integrity and accuracy of the stories brought to the screen. An essential approach to decolonizing imaginaries and minds and enriching global audiovisual creation.
Adam Piron is a filmmaker and curator of Kiowa and Mohawk descent, currently director of the Indigenous Program at the Sundance Institute. Co-founder of the collective COUSIN.
