ELOI MACHORO, A WARRIOR’S TRAIL

November 18, 1984: Eloi Machoro breaks a ballot box with a sledgehammer in the town hall of Canala, in New Caledonia. The photo goes around the world. The man has just become a symbol of the Kanak independence struggle. He dies a few months later, shot by the GIGN. Through his story, the relations between France and New Caledonia are told.
