May 23, 2002: Lucien’s small tourist plane and four other people disappeared, body and belongings, over the Tuamotu Islands. Lucien Kimitete, Boris Léontieff and their two deputies were on an election campaign. In Marquises, the trauma is considerable. Even today, the Marquises are orphans of the man who had made their dreams come true and brought their pride back, carrying the words and culture of Marquises far beyond the seas. Lucien «the bird» who loved to fly over his islands, attached to his paraglider, fell in mid-flight, but his voice still resonates.
