In 1987, on the atoll of Faaite, a collective psychosis led to the “pyre tragedy.” Forty years later, the author’s parents, Christian Morhain and Josette Pohue—who lived there and witnessed the events—return to the atoll to meet the families. Together, they recount how they navigated this tragedy, exploring themes of memory, forgiveness, and resilience.
