P.N.G. Milne Bay. A group of Papuans and two anthropologists talk about ancient objects made from shells and about a "traditional game", the kula, which consists of making these objects travel from island to island in a system of exchanges that links islands and people. The kula thus becomes a real "network" that the Papuans call a kula circle. There are a number of them. Ritualised exchanges, shared meals, kula fraternity bonds where people participate, all this combats the remoteness and isolation of the islands.
