The Canoe is the Future is a feature-length, character driven documentary by the people of the Mariana Islands and Micronesia. The film begins with the recent completion and maiden voyage of a sacred canoe built from Microensian wisdom on the island of Saipan. Told through Indigenous filmmakers, it follows a multi-year journey to build, launch, and sail a traditional canoe – reviving Micrneosian seafaring as a living science and cultural force for renewal.
