FILM SUBMISSION REGULATIONS FOR FIFO

ARTICLE 1 – PURPOSE AND FREE ENTRY

The Oceanian International Documentary Film Festival (FIFO) is an annual cinematographic event that highlights Oceanian realities through documentary audiovisual productions.

Entry is free for all films, whether submitted in or out of competition.

ARTICLE 2 – GENERAL ENTRY CONDITIONS

  1. Eligible works include documentary films, short fiction films and hybrid-format films, produced after 1 January of the two preceding years.
  2. An Oceanian theme or connection is a decisive selection criterion.
  3. Entry is made via the online form available at fifotahiti.com, with all required documents (see article 5).

ARTICLE 3 – CALENDAR

The exact dates for entry, file submission and announcement of the selection are updated each year on the official website.

2027 edition:

  • Films produced after 1 January 2025
  • Entry deadline: 1 October 2026
  • Selection announcement: end of November 2026
  • Festival: 5 to 14 February 2027

ARTICLE 4 – SELECTION CATEGORIES

The official selection of FIFO 2027 is divided into four categories:

  • In competition: between 15 and 17 hours of selected programming;
  • Out of competition: between 7 and 8 hours of selected programming;
  • Short documentary films: approximately 2 to 2.5 hours of programming;
  • Short fiction films: approximately 2 to 2.5 hours of programming.

In addition, exceptionally for the 2027 edition, the special “Pacific Games 2027” category (see article 12).

ARTICLE 5 – DOCUMENTS AND FILES TO PROVIDE

Each entry must include:

  • The completed online form
  • An online viewing link (Vimeo, private YouTube, Google Drive, etc.) in SD quality for pre-selection
  • An HD version will be required if the film is selected
  • A short synopsis (max. 300 characters)
  • A technical sheet for the film (template provided)
  • 3 HD visuals (poster, production still)
  • The subtitle file in SRT format, in French or English depending on the original version
  • A broadcasting authorisation (checkboxes on the form)

ARTICLE 6 – LANGUAGES AND SUBTITLES

  • All films must be presented in their original version.
  • Films selected in competition must be provided with subtitles in French and/or English.
  • Subtitles must be provided in timecoded SRT format.
  • A complete script with timecodes must be provided.

ARTICLE 7 – SELECTION AND SCREENING

  • The pre-selection committee views all films received within the deadlines.
  • Selected films will be contacted in November via the details provided in the form.
  • Selected films may be screened: in person in the theatres of Te Fare Tauhiti Nui – the House of Culture in Papeete (during the festival), online on the streaming platform www.fifotahiti.com (during the festival and for one week afterwards), and at partner events (throughout the year following the festival).

ARTICLE 8 – USE OF EXCERPTS AND RIGHTS

  • By submitting a film, applicants authorise the free use of an excerpt of no more than 2 minutes for festival promotion (TV, web, social media).
  • A request to withdraw an excerpt may be made in writing up to 15 days before the start of the festival.

ARTICLE 9 – THE FIFO FUND AND FIFO BEYOND THE WALLS

  • Selected films may be included in the FIFO Fund, a digital media library created for purposes of preservation, education and cultural dissemination.
  • Films in the FIFO Fund may be screened for non-profit activities such as school, university or community screenings. For each of these screenings, FIFO keeps the directors informed.
  • FIFO Beyond the Walls (Hors les Murs) allows a selection of films to be screened in other Pacific territories, in mainland France and internationally.
  • By ticking the corresponding boxes on the form, directors agree that their film may be included in these screenings, unless they state otherwise in writing.

ARTICLE 10 – PERSONAL DATA (GDPR)

  • The data collected via the form is used for entry management.
  • In accordance with the GDPR, you may access, rectify or delete your data by contacting: [email protected].
  • A box accepting these regulations and the privacy policy is mandatory on the form.

ARTICLE 11 – PRIZES AWARDED BY FIFO

Films in competition are reviewed by the International Jury of the festival, made up of 7 members, which awards:

  • the FIFO – France Télévisions Grand Jury Prize: 500,000 XPF;
  • two Special Jury Prizes: 200,000 XPF each;
  • the Demain / Ananahi Prize: €3,000.

The following are also awarded:

  • the Best Short Documentary Prize: 100,000 XPF;
  • the Best Short Fiction Prize: 100,000 XPF;
  • the Audience Prize: 300,000 XPF — awarded by public vote and covering all films, both in and out of competition;
  • (exceptional, 2027) the special “Pacific Games 2027” category Prize: 500,000 XPF, offered by the Pacific Games Organising Committee and awarded by a special jury.

These prizes are awarded by juries made up of professionals, cultural figures, university or high-school students, as the case may be. Other prizes may be created or awarded by FIFO’s partners.

ARTICLE 12 – SPECIAL “PACIFIC GAMES 2027” CATEGORY

On the occasion of the Pacific Games held in Tahiti in 2027, FIFO is creating, for this edition only, a special “Pacific Games 2027” category, in partnership with the Pacific Games Organising Committee.

This category is assessed by a dedicated special jury. It consists of two parts:

  • one part screened as part of the OFF (free screenings);
  • one part integrated into the FIFO general selection.

A prize of 500,000 XPF, offered by the Pacific Games Organising Committee, will be awarded to the winner of this category (all parts combined).

ARTICLE 13 – ADDITIONAL PROVISIONS

Any matter not provided for in these regulations will be dealt with by the FIFO Committee, with no possibility of appeal.

FIFO reserves the right to adapt its terms in the event of force majeure.
