In 2019, the FIFAC (International Festival of Documentary Film Amazonia-Caribbean), FIFO”s “little brother” opened its first edition… In 2024, we were happy to welcome a new member to this unusual family: the FIFOI (International Indian Ocean Film Festival), in Réunion Island, which celebrates cinema from the Indian Ocean. These three festivals share a common ambition: showcase and give voice to the stories and talents of the regions, while promoting cultural and professional exchanges. We are proud to offer a Carte Blanche to FIFOI, for its first edition and to open a window on the Indian Ocean.

In the suburbs of Nouméa, the Saint-Louis tribe was established around a Catholic mission at the beginning of New Caledonia's colonization, as a settlement for Kanaks displaced from their ancestral lands. Saint-Louis, both a tribe and a district of the Caledonian capital, has historically been a stronghold of the independence movement. In recent years, it has become a site of unrest and violence driven by the youth of the tribe. Several young people from this tribe lost their lives in clashes with the French gendarmes.

Saint-Louis, une histoire calédonienne gives the floor for the first time to young people of this tribe. Free words that highlight the difficulties of a Kanak youth who has remained on the edge of the path of a « common destiny », celebrated by Caledonian and French politicians from all sides for more than thirty years.
